ETHLETIC Fairtrade footwear review from EcoChic
Ethletic - Small steps lead to big changes
The words “I want to wear them now!” were made by 6 year old Oliver Doyle who kindly
offered to review a pair of ETHLETIC size 1 high top sneakers, in a wonderfully pleasing olive
green. Delivered in a recycled box with an extra pair of laces should one fancy black lace up to
white, the sneakers were instantly comfortable, with a moulded and supportive instep.
Incredibly and as if by magic, they also enabled Oliver to “jump higher” and “run faster”, as
well as making him “avoid all puddles”, presumably so he could then wear them in bed (which
he then did). A shoe that inspires such love and care from a small child is a great shoe!
Ethletic Shoes, Organic Cotton, FSC and Fair Trade all wrapped up in one.
The ETHLETIC range covers low top and high top sneakers in a variety of colours starting at
size 26. Responsibly made, ETHLETIC use 100% organic cotton for the canvas upper, with a
natural rubber sole, an the rubber has been sourced from responsibly managed rubber
plantations. The FSC stamp is on the sole of every pair and the rubber is also fairly traded,
which means a social premium is paid on each kilo of rubber purchased and a Fair Trade
premium is paid for every pair made which pays for health and welfare facilities for all
workers.
All the information is found readily on the box and is printed on the inside of the shoe.
On arrival at school the new shoes drew compliments from parents and teachers alike. As a
parent it was a refreshing change to find some fun Fair Trade shoes that are not only fitted
well with a supportive ankle but also gave me an opportunity to explain what the shoes meant
for workers abroad in a way that was appropriate for a child.
Once this pair has been lovingly worn in, both my son and I will be shopping with ETHLETIC for
a new pair each.
Ethletic is a social business to be admired; innovation, sport and ethical trade all wrapped up
with small steps leading to big changes.
